The road to become a professional bus driver before being an airline pilot
2020 Apr 17, around 3 months past since the outbreak of COVID-19 , I wake up at 0500LT.
This first thing I am going to do is to type a simply “diary” to record my recent status. I like writing blog since I can review what I did in the past and I can check my progress.
Life is running fast! It has been more than a year since I left the VHHH as a ground staff. Although I have just finished my Day 60 as a professional driver in a franchised bus company, I enjoyed the life in KMB! Rightly, I have to give thanks to the last employer.
The real reasons why I quit the last position
After a year, I have to admit to myself that I quit because of something.
During the last quarter of 2018, I got promotion to a senior officer and even got an opportunity to work in a brand-new department for 4 months. However, I encountered a “thunderstorm”. The development was not well-developed and so I was actually taking part of the “Office Control Duty Desk (OCD)” role in the Airport Authority Movement Control Center. However, I was often invited to work over-time to mid-night. The reality is that there was no direct-route to home and so I had extra commute time. The “life” lasted for months. On 2018 Nov 11 (The date 1111), the incoming call increased particularly, I used extra time to handle those calls before I could handle my routine. Giving “crew call instruction” to hotel was one of my duties as a “OCD” officer. On that particular day, the crew call instruction guideline was covered by another document and so I needed to flipped over the non-relevant page. Due to the similar crew call pattern as well as “Human Factors”, I made the mistake which caused approx 30 mins delay for the flight. This taught me a lot of things and I did a through reflection. First, I did not know that I was overloaded and suffering from fatigue. I was not assertive enough to ask for helps from Supervisor. I did not realize a paper covering on top could be kind of “Threat to my operation”.
While I could not forgive my mistake, I noticed that my part-time course suddenly increased the frequency of evening lectures from two to three. To be honest, I was working in the Operation Department and I noticed that I would be bothering to my supervisor on roaster scheduling. When I do something, I always ask myself to show a decent performance. Therefore, I made that heavy decision.
In March 2019, I started my new life as a Part-time Barista in a coffee shop and I got my professional driving license in August same year. The two part-time job can absolutely fit my learning time-table as well as become a new learning-platform to me. While I am delivering service to the customers, I have the hand-on practice.
Below is a photo capture from a company recruit footage, I wish one day I will be the professional airline pilot who worked in KMB.
