一次搞清楚 Q-code and Altitudes (Altimetry)
March 4, 2024
Ref Ace the technical pilot interview 2/E
QFE : refer to the height (vertical distance) above ground level (with no relation to mean sea level)
QNH : Altitude – refer to the height (vertical distance) above mean sea level
QNE : Pressure Height = Flight level – refer to the height (vertical distance) above 1013 (ISA) datum.
QFF : is the pressure level at detecting point (usually airport weather office) reduce to MSL, it considers the actual environment condition and calculation applied.
Hight refers to the vertical distance above ground/surface;
Altitude refers to the vertical distance above MSL;
Elevation refers to the vertical distance between a fixed point (say the airport) and MSL
5 Types of altitude (relationship with Q-code)
- Indicated altitude: altimeter reading
- Absolute altitude: above ground/surface (QFE)
- True altitude: above mean sea level (QNH)
- Pressure altitude: above the standard datum plane (SDP) – 1013 hPa or 29.92 mmHg (QNE)
- Density altitude: pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature (ISA deviation)
