Date rape drug and cocaine seizures soar as Hong Kong customs officials work with international counterparts to crack down on problem
A commissioner (長官) of the Customs and Excise Department said “Customs officers seized (搜獲/充工) nearly three times more date rape drugs (迷姦藥) and almost double the amount of cocaine in Hong Kong last year”
This compared with 124.3kg of the chemical confiscated (= seized) in 2017.
The amount of cocaine impounded (= seized 扣查) also soared from 139.9kg in 2017 to 255.4kg last year.
Drugs were a global problem, not one faced by Hong Kong alone. He reiterated (=re-emphasise) the situation was under control and that Hong Kong was not a narcotics (=illegal drug) transit hub.
It is a transnational crime. Tackling this problem is a shared responsibility of all countries.
We have stepped up (加強) international cooperation and enforcement action [both in the city and at border] control points (出入囗管制站).
