Lesson 37 – Listening and engaging in stories

Summary
Telling and listening actively to stories
The topic of the lesson is storytelling. I had chance to:

  • tell your classmates about something that happened to you in the past
  • focus on phrases to show interest
  • focus on auxiliary verbs in follow-up questions
  • practise using intonation to show interest.

Language – below are some words or phases that we could use to show our interest in a conversation

  1. Really?
  2. Yeah, yeah…
  3. Uh, huh = Yep!
  4. No!
  5. You’re joking!
  6. Don’t you?
  7. Oh, right.
  8. Wow.
  9. That was lucky!

“Echo” questions is another useful skill !

Example: After I say : “Echo” questions is another useful skill ! – you could say : Is it?
Example: I like doing exercise on regular basis. – you could give me response : Do you?
Example: You got it! – Did I?

Uh, huh.

Let me make a short summary about “Listening and engaging in other stories”

  • Need to build rapport
  • Echo question
  • Uh-huh, Really?, You must be joking!
  • Pitch

Cool! I feel that I have learnt something new. – Have you? XD
