Lesson2 - lifestyle difference -Summary


In the lessons, we had time to brainstorm what kind of life we can have:

  • Health (Unhealthy)  lifestyle  -> Vegetarian lifestyle     v.s    carnivorous lifestyle
  • Social lifestyle    v.s    Gamer’s lifestyle = anti-social lifestyle
  • Adventure lifestyle   v.s   Tedious / robotic lifestyle
  • Relaxing lifestyle   v.s    Stressful/ Hectic lifestyle
  • Day-out lifestyle   v.s     Night-out lifestyle    v.s     Irregular lifestyle
  • Traveler’s lifestyle
  • Pilot’s lifestyle

Even though I don’t know the definition of “lifestyle” exactly, all the lifestyle above seems to be reasonable and easy for you to link up word those with certain life pattern.


In the lesson, Liam, my tutor gave me two articles for reference, along with some phrase to talk about things in general:

  • On the whole, (people work hard) here….
  • People tend to work long hours.
  • It is normal that they head to the beach.
  • It is common for us to to bed late.
  • Generally speaking, the people are very friendly.

 

To describe our life in a city, we can say something like these:

  • Life in (here/there) is …

Example:

(HK) is an exciting and colourful city on the east coast of Mainland China. It’s famous for the HK-style fast foods, which are easy to find left,right and center (anywhere). Life in here is very much like life in any other major city in the world. However, there are some things that are very particular to this city.

Most (people/ citizen) get up quite early in the morning. Breakfast is not very heavy. It usually consists of …… Usually (people/we) turn on the TV during breakfast to catch up on the news. Many people will work out and then go home, take a shower and head to work. Usually lunch break lasts one hour from noon until 1 p.m. Lunch is usually the biggest meal of the day with a lot of meat and a few vegetables. With the exception of those who have late hours, most workers leave their jobs sometime between 5 and 7 p.m. On the whole, dinner is a very light meal, usually consisting of ….

(HK) is one of two special administrative regions of the China and one of major city of trade and finance. If you come to the town, the first thing that you will notice is just how busy everyone is. This is a fast-paced city, where people are always in a hurry. Life here can be very stressful at times, but it can also be a lot of fun.

Commuting to work can be very hard as the public transport are very busy during rush hour. Some people push to get on the MTR like sardines.

For Lunch, most people eat out in a restaurant near the office, or to get something from the convenience store and eat it at our desks. Generally speaking, working hours are long here, and it is not unusual to find people still working in the evening. After work people like to go out together and ….
