Ben: It’s getting closer to the big day. Are you nervous?
Aron: What do you think? I’ve decided that if I don’t get this job, then I’m just going to give up.
Ben: Come on, try not to be so negative. You know what they say : third time lucky. Or in your case…tenth time lucky.
Aron: I know…I don’t know what it is. (我真係吾係好明) I’ve got the qualifications, the skills, the experience…
Ben: Well, if you don’t mind me saying, I think it’s more about the first impression you’re giving the interviewer.
Aron: Are you trying to say there’s something wrong with how I dress?
Ben: Well, I didn’t exactly say that. But if I were you, I’d think about wearing something more professional in the interview. After all, it’s a very reputable company.
//NOTES: “After all”
used to add information that shows that what you have just said is true:
Aron: OK, Mrs Fashion Expert. What should I wear then?
Ben: I’d try to dress less casually and wear a nice suit. And you’ve got to cover your tattoos – I can see your mum’s name from miles away!
Aron: Dress less casually….cover my tattoos…ok, what else?
Ben: For me, it’s important that you’re well groomed. Maybe it’s time to think about cutting that ponytail off and being a bit more clean shaven.
Aron: But that just isn’t me. I don’t want to turn into a different person.
Ben: Of course not – you still need to be yourself. You can express your individuality in other ways. But perhaps you should stay away from those funny jokes.
Aron: OK, good idea. There aren’t many people who appreciate them like you do. So, any final words of wisdom?
Ben: Yes, you definitely need to set your watch. I know what you’re like (我太了解您喇 您…) – you never arrive on time.
Aron: I like to call it fashionably late…oh wait, I just realised. The interview is actually today!
