You will identify what expenses companies have and listen to two company directors discussing some ideas for reducing expenditure. You will focus on hypothetical language and some verb noun collocations related to money and the workplace.<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>ME:<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> It&#8217;s been a bad year<\/span>\u00a0Charles. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It&#8217;s not just us, of course, it&#8217;s the general economic situation&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>C: Yep. But<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> we can&#8217;t just wait and hope things improve.<\/span> We&#8217;re just about breaking even now but who knows what&#8217;s going to happen next year? We could be making a loss. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">So we need to<\/span> look at where we can make a few savings&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>ME: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I know, so let&#8217;s see.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Well the first possibility is<\/span> the hardest &#8211; cutting posts.<\/p>\n<p>C: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hmm,<\/span> redundancies.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> I know,<\/span> TOMMY, staff costs are high. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The best thing of course would be if<\/span> somebody actually wanted to go.<\/p>\n<p>ME: Yes, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">well we could see if<\/span> there were any expressions of interest in voluntary redundancy.<\/p>\n<p>C: Yes, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">it&#8217;s a pity&#8230;<\/span>we&#8217;ve got a really great team, with everyone doing a good job. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If<\/span> someone went <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">then we&#8217;d need to<\/span> share out their workload. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">And in reality I&#8217;m not sure<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">how easy that would be&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>ME: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Another possibility would be to<\/span> see if anyone wanted to reduce their hours, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">you know,<\/span> go part-time. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">That could make things a lot easier and result in<\/span> a significant saving &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>C: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Yes, that&#8217;s not a bad idea at all. Do you think anyone would<\/span> be interested?<\/p>\n<p>ME: Well maybe. If they could cope financially with the reduction in salary. Some people might like the opportunity to spend more time with their family, or more time on something they enjoy doing..<\/p>\n<p>C: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">We could make it temporary..<\/span> so they&#8217;d have the option of returning to full time after a year, say.<\/p>\n<p>ME: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Good, yes.
