{"id":932,"date":"2018-10-08T12:57:09","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T04:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tommykwan.com\/blog\/?p=932"},"modified":"2018-10-08T12:57:09","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T04:57:09","slug":"decision-learning-on-the-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tommykwan.com\/blog\/english-learning\/decision-learning-on-the-bus\/","title":{"rendered":"Decision : Learning on the bus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I have just bought a new \u201ctoy\u201d, hopefully, which could be used to boost my learning curve.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionaryblog.cambridge.org\/2015\/01\/28\/think-long-and-hard-the-language-of-decisions\/\">Think long and hard; the language of&nbsp;decisions<\/a><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u00a0<strong><a title=\"reach definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/reach#1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reach<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a title=\"come to definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/come-to-sth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">come to<\/a><\/strong> a decision after I have\u00a0<strong>put a lot of <a title=\"thought definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/thought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thought<\/a> into<\/strong> it (= think about it carefully).<\/li>\n<li>It a <strong>difficult\/<a title=\"tough definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/tough#1-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tough<\/a> decision<\/strong> to make, I needed time to <strong><a title=\"consider definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/consider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consider<\/a><\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong><strong><a title=\"pros and cons definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/pro_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pros and cons<\/a>\/advantages and disadvantages<\/strong> of the possible choices (= the good and bad things about them). I\u00a0<strong><a title=\"weigh them up definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/weigh-sb-sth-up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weigh them up<\/a><\/strong> (= decide which are most important) carefully. I have to <strong>consider my\u00a0<a title=\"options definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/option\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">options<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>I\u00a0<strong><a title=\"mull something over definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/mull-sth-over\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mull something over<\/a><\/strong>, I take time to think about it calmly and carefully.<\/li>\n<li>I have <strong><a title=\"thought long and hard definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/think#1-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thought long and hard<\/a><\/strong> about it or that I \u00a0<strong><a title=\"not do sth lightly definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/lightly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">did not take the decision lightly<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>a <strong><a title=\"hasty definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/hasty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hasty decision<\/a><\/strong> (= decided too quickly) is not good ; A\u00a0<strong><a title=\"snap definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/snap#3-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snap decision<\/a><\/strong> is also a very fast but is usually used in a more positive way to describe something you decide very suddenly.<\/li>\n<li>I am\u00a0<strong><a title=\"torn between definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/american-english\/torn-between-something-and-something\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">torn between<\/a><\/strong>; two options, I find it very difficult to decide which one to choose. I decide to <strong><a title=\"seek definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/seek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seek<\/a> <\/strong>(= try to get) <strong><a title=\"advice definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advice<\/a><\/strong> or <strong>do some <a title=\"research definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a><\/strong> in order to help me make an <strong><a title=\"informed definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/informed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">informed<\/a> decision<\/strong> (= with all the facts you need). I decide to <strong><a title=\"talk it over definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/talk-sth-over\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">talk it over<\/a><\/strong> with someone else, to see what they think.<\/li>\n<li>I\u00a0<strong><a title=\"toy with sth definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/toy-with-sth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toy with the idea<\/a><\/strong> of doing something, I consider it, but not very seriously, and I\u00a0<strong><a title=\"have second thoughts definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/second-thought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have second thoughts<\/a><\/strong> about something, I realize that I am not happy with a decision, and may decide to change it.<\/li>\n<li>If I have the power! \u2013 I can <strong><a title=\"overturn definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/overturn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overturn<\/a><\/strong>or <strong><a title=\"reverse definition\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/reverse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reverse<\/a><\/strong> it (= change things to the way they were before).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I have just bought a new \u201ctoy\u201d, hopefully, which could be used to boost my learning curve.
