As a result, the overlying air heats up, expands and rises upwards. This leads to the <strong>formation of a semi-permanent low pressure area<\/strong> near the heart of the continent.<strong> Warm and moist air from<\/strong> the <strong>Indian Ocean<\/strong> and the <strong>South China Sea<\/strong> flowing into this low pressure area is experienced as the summer monsoon over south and southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p>\u5728\u590f\u5929\uff0c\u4e9e\u6d32\u5927\u9678\u53d7\u5230\u592a\u967d\u7684\u5f37\u70c8\u7167\u5c04\uff0c\u5730\u9762\u6eab\u5ea6\u5347\u9ad8\uff0c\u5176\u4e0a\u7684\u7a7a\u6c23\u53d7\u71b1\uff0c\u65bc\u662f\u81a8\u8139\u548c\u4e0a\u5347\uff0c\u4e00\u500b\u9577\u671f\u7dad\u6301\u7684\u4f4e\u58d3\u5340\u4fbf\u5728\u4e9e\u6d32\u4e2d\u90e8\u5f62\u6210\u3002\u7576\u6eab\u6696\u6f6e\u6fd5\u7684\u7a7a\u6c23\u5f9e\u5370\u5ea6\u6d0b\u53ca\u5357\u6d77\u5439\u5411\u9019\u500b\u4f4e\u58d3\u5340\u6642\uff0c\u4e9e\u6d32\u5357\u90e8\u53ca\u6771\u5357\u90e8\u4fbf\u53d7\u5230\u590f\u5b63\u5b63\u5019\u98a8\u7684\u5f71\u97ff\u3002<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Monsoons v.s Tropical cyclones<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text\"><strong>Winds associated with<\/strong> the <strong>monsoons<\/strong> are generally <strong>more persistent than<\/strong> those brought by <strong>tropical cyclones<\/strong> and may last for days. In intense surges of the winter monsoon, northeasterlies of up to gale force are not uncommon over the south China coastal waters. However, the full impact of these winds is not always felt in Hong Kong, particularly in heavily built-up areas or where nearby terrain provides some sheltering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Occasionally, in winter, tropical cyclones traversing the South China Sea pass to the south of Hong Kong just when a monsoon is affecting the coastal areas of south China. Winter monsoon normally blows from the north or from the east while summer monsoon typically blows from the southwest. Widespread heavy rainfall can result if the trough is close to, or over, land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inactive or &#8220;break&#8221; period<\/strong> occurs when the monsoon trough temporarily weakens or retreats north of Australia.
