Actually, I have given up my goal to become a professional airline pilot for the sake of the COVID-19. However, it doesn’t mean that I cannot be a recreational pilot who even holds the CPL. Anyway.

I have a “logbook” for the part-time job as a professional Bus Captain – this is what I have learnt from the aviation (AV) industry. And from now on, I am just applying the same concept in my working life in OSH sector. To be honest, I have got to squeeze every minutes as well as have to be good at time management, as I foresee that my schedule must be full. I cannot guarantee or give a promise to type a diary (every day), but I will do my best.

At least, I do this because I am going to join the IELTS test (for “recurrence”). Back to the topic of today – I’ve made mistakes on Day 1 as well as I’ve learnt something. Ah

Everyday is a new day

It is what I learnt in the past.

This morning, I followed my “Master” to a Magistrates’ (音: 媽-street-trait) court and it is my second time to that sort of solemn premise. Recalling from my deep memory that the first time I enter the so-called “court” was my primary six, when I finished the speech festival (a competition) and my English teacher brought me to there impromptu (音: im-prompt-條).

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”

Here is what I have re-learn:

When you enter the court (if the Magistrates 裁判官 has been inside already) or

When the Magistrates enter/exit the court, you as a auditorium on public gallery/ visitor seat, you have to take a bow to he/she.

In addition, we cannot take photos or recordings, and even cannot write down anything without permission.

After the overall hearing, I followed Master to a site for inspection. Master gave me an opportunity to stay there on my own, and I was just observing the workers doing their task. Of course, I was following them and so I have learnt something about their routine/procedure. I particular remember that one of the worker brought me to the rooftop, where has load of pipes arranged in a crisscross pattern with the ladder platforms. Finally, I reached an identical corner by using two different paths – the first one was using the platforms with steps and the other was climbing through a thick pipe where has only 1 meters from the upper fence in horizontal distance, and that fence is used for prevention from falling down the building. Rightly, a normal adult is almost certainly exposing the upper part of the leg above the height of that upper fence.

Suddenly, I have learnt something :

If you ask a layman / If you as a layman to conduct a task with fear about the safety, then there is a potential risk!

In theory, it doesn’t make sense that you wear a safety harness while you are walking through the pipes, therefore, we should/must remind the workers about this hazard as well as prohibited this act.

After the observation and reading on some folders, I left and went to school for the evening lesson.

This evening, we have a presentation of a group work. An amazing communication error happened in our group – the tutor pointed out that we suppose to do a topic other than what we have done – we did the wrong “case” of study. Luckily, the tutor accepted the work we submitted. However, here have at least two possible causes:

The tutor assigned me as a liaison person of the group and my group mates trusted my information without hearing by themselves

We heard the correct number together and the tutor made that mistake, plus the other group asked for confirmation
(p.s I have the photo that shows our group mates only put our name on a paper without the “case number” – the case number is added after we submitted)

Anyway, no matter a safety officer or using the concept of flying a big jet:

X-check always!

DDM – Direct, Demonstrate (Execute by others)/Monitor

Finally, one more interesting thing in the lesson have proven that the significance of X-check – the tutor asked us to sign to name on the attendance record. I just signed one as usual, but the tutor have monitored (X-check, double check by him) the number of records against the people in the room – he found out that I should sign one more name on it.

Okay, it is time to bed. Have a good night~

Place visited today: a Magistrates’ Courts (裁判法院) one of the construction site (in Hospital) Today, it is the day 1 of my life as a trainee in OSH sector, a field that I have wanted to touch when I was still working in the airport.
